Set-Up Instructions for Windows 95/98/ME/Win2000/Win XP
Step #1: First you will need to change your homepage to EvenLink. In Windows 95/98/ME/2000 click on “START” then “SETTINGS” then on “CONTROL PANEL”. In Windows XP click on “START” then on the “CONTROL PANEL”. In the control panel double-click on “INTERNET OPTIONS”. Where it shows the homepage simply change it to start.evenlink.com and click “OK”. Then close the control panel.
Step #2: Click on the “START” button. Then select “RUN”. In the box type inetwiz and click “OK”.
Step #3: Select “CONNECT USING MY PHONE LINE” and click “NEXT”.
Step #4: If you have more than one modem installed in your computer it will ask you to select a modem. Do so and click “NEXT”. If you had an internet provider prior to us you will be asked if you want to create a new connection or use an existing one. Select create a new one and select “NEXT”, otherwise you will be asked to enter a telephone number.
Please select a number from the list below. REMEMBER TO PICK A TOWN, WHICH IS A LOCAL CALL FOR YOU AS WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LONG DISTANCE CHARGES! Remove the check mark from “DIAL USING AREA CODE AND COUNTRY CODE OR DIALING RULES” and then click “NEXT”. Only uncheck this if you are not required to dial your area code when making a local call.
Step #5: Next you will enter your username and password. REMEMBER THEY ARE CASE SENSITIVE. Your username does include @evenlink.com after it. Your password will appear as ***** instead of the actual letters. After they are entered click “NEXT”.
Step #6: You will next be asked to give a name for your connection. Please name it EvenLink and click “NEXT”.
Step #7: If you are running Windows 95 and you do not have Outlook Express installed on your computer you will automatically go to Step #12 otherwise you will next be asked if you would like to set up an email account. If you would like to select “YES” and then click “NEXT” otherwise select “NO” and click “NEXT” and skip to step 12.
Step #8: Please note if you had an internet provider prior to us you will then select “CREATE A NEW INTERNET MAIL ACCOUNT” and click “NEXT”. If not you will skip to Step #8.
Step #9: You will next enter your name. You can put anything in this box you like (i.e. nickname, full name etc...). Then click “NEXT”.
Step #10: You will then enter your email address. Your email address is your username with @evenlink.com after it. Then Click “NEXT”.
Step #11: At the top of the next box it should say “MY INCOMING MAIL SERVER IS A POP3 SERVER”. Below there will be two boxes. The first box is where you enter the incoming mail server, which is mail.evenlink.com. The second box is where you will enter the outgoing mail server which is mail.evenlink.com. Then click “NEXT”.
Step #12: You will then be asked to enter your account name and password. These are the same as your dial up connection. Just enter your username with @evenlink.com and your password and click “NEXT”.
Step #13: The next screen you see should tell you that you are finished. Depending on your version of Microsoft Windows it will either have a check box to finish and connect immediately or simply just a finish button. Either way click “FINISH” and you are done.
Step #14: To get on line all you need to do is open “Internet Explorer” and a connection screen for EvenLink should automatically come up. Simply click “Connect”.
